Hatu Peak: Hatu Mata Temple: The Highest Peak In Narkanda:


Hatu Peak is one of the highest locations around Narkanda.  And It is the second-highest peak in the Shimla district. It is on the Shimla-Rampur highway, approximately 71 kilometers away from Shimla. Hatu Peak rests at an elevation on 3400 meters or 11,152 feet.

It is around 8 kilometers from Narkanda, and it attracts trekkers’ attention. Generally, these trekkers start their trekking from Narkanda and walk upwards. Because of its beauty, you can feel it as a reward from nature when you look around from the top of the peak.

The peak keeps the Hatu Mata temple. It is an amazing wooden temple. According to local belief, It is a temple of the Hindu deity Kali Maa. On the very first Sunday of Jyeshtha (the third month of the year, according to the Hindu calendar.) i.e. the month of June, locals come to the temple and pay their rituals.

There is an ancient stove call ‘Bheem Chulha’. It is formed by rocks nearby the temple. According to the locals, the Pandavas (the five sons of Pandu- reference from Mahabharata) cook their food on this stove.

Being one of the highest peaks of Shimla district, it becomes extremely beautiful when it muffles a white sheet of snow in winter. On the whole, it is the home of beauty.

Kacheri: Mahamaya Temple:

Kacheri is a small village in Narkanda Tehsil of the Shimla district. The hamlet is on NH22 around 7 kilometers faraway from Narkanda and around 40 kilometers away from Shimla. It is a neat and clean village just 500 meters far from Oddi.

This village is popular due to its age-old Mahamaya Temple, an ancient shrine of Maa Kali. Tons of devotees visit the temple for worship throughout the year. So it is the most visited place for the devotees of goddess Kali as well as for the tourists.

Apart from this ancient temple, you can visit the apple orchards and green vegetation. Kacheri is ideal for hiking and picnic as well. Because the temple is also surrounded by the beautiful scenery of nature. So nature lovers enjoy the exquisite beauty of nature here.

Stokes Farm is a small village around 14 kilometers away from Narkanda. It is also called Thanedar. Generally, It is at 8000 feet from sea level. And the village is famous for its ample apple production.

Samuel Stokes, a social worker from Philadelphia, planted and established the apple orchard. Stokes Farm is named after him. thus the Farm is known for the large-scale cultivation of apples.

The farm not only grows the apple but also provides jobs to the locals- like sowing and reaping, jobs in making wine, jam, and other products.

By flight

There are frequent buses to Narkanda from all major cities and towns in Northern India. It is on the National Highway (NH5) connecting Shimla to Kinnaur. So there are several buses between Shimla and Narkanda. It is just 60.5 km away and it takes a two-hour drive to reach the town.

By train

The nearest railway station to Narkanda is the Shimla railway station. And I’d suggest you enjoy the famous toy train thrilling journey from the Kalka to Shimla. Thus you will experience the beauty of nature through this journey. Just reach Shimla through this route and then take the bus or taxi from Shimla to Narkanda.


Before choosing a trip, please undergo certain medical tests. Altitude sickness should be checked before you start this trip. If you are physically fit, you are ready to enjoy your life in the lap of Nature.

If you plan to go skiing, have shoes of good quality. Find registered operators and provide decent equipment and safety appliances for your ski trip.
