Chail is 55.3 Kilometer or 1 h 50 min driving distance via NH5 and Kandaghat-Chail-Kufri Road and 45.5 kilometers or 1 h 54 min driving distance via Kufri Bypass Road and Kandaghat-Chail-Kufri Road.

Since Chail is a quiet and beautiful hilly town so it was the shelter for the Maharaja of Patiala. This beautiful location was the summer capital of the Patiala Kings. Therefore you can find the palace which has been converted into a hotel.

It is famous for the highest cricket ground in the world and the famous Chail Palace which is now a heritage hotel. Certainly, you would love to hear the sweet chirping of the birds in the Chail Wildlife Sanctuary.

Chail Palace Hotel

The palace was built in 1891 and the Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala was its owner.  It was the summer shelter for the Maharaja of Patiala. With the passes of time, this palace got converted into a heritage hotel. So it has become the center of attraction for the tourists.

The attractive objects to observe are the classic furniture and historic interior of this royal lifestyle. In other words, you can experience a live royal lifestyle here. Hopefully, you would love to do that.

There are a lot of cottages around the town, but the palace is the best location for a classy tourist. In case, you don’t want to stay in the palace, you can enjoy a small visit to a part of this royal place. Cafe Place is an open dining point where you can have delicious food with a scenic view.

Himalayan Nature Park

Though Himalayan Nature Park is in Kufri it is one of the best wildlife places around Chail. Certainly, you would love this place. Because you can see amazing animals like bear, deer, leopard, Tibetan wolf, and others.

Shopping lovers can buy wooden handicrafts and handloom stuff from the nearby. Certainly, you will enjoy here with your friends or family. It is one of the most visited places near Shimla, Kufri, and Chail.

This beautiful wildlife place is not for free, you will have to pay INR 20 per head for adults and INR 10 per head for children. It is around 30 kilometers away from Chail.

Suggestion: When you are in Shimla or in Kufri, you must go to this location because it is handy to these two towns.

Chail Wildlife Sanctuary

If you are a love of wildlife and animals, you will love Chail Wildlife Sanctuary. Certainly, it is one of the best places for you to visit. This beautiful location rests at the height of 7152 feet.

Over and above scenic views, you will get a chance to see the beautiful birds and animals like Himalayan Black Bear, ape, wild boar, flying squirrel, and goral.

There is no entry free. So go and enjoy the wildlife.

Sadhupul Lake

Sadhupul Lake is one of the highest locations in Chail. Here is a lake restaurant where you can snack like Maggi and bread-omelet. Just order your favorite snacks and beverages and enjoy it while dipping your feet in the cold water of the lake, and enjoy the cold breezy weather and lush greenery. Certainly, nature will offer you everything that makes you happy there.

This cricket ground is located at the elevation of 7500 feet and it is the highest cricket ground in the world. Chail was the summer capital of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala, who was an excited cricket lover.

At present, the Army maintains this ground as it is a part of the cantonment region. But the tourists can stroll around and take photos. Please keep in mind that the tourists are not allowed to enter the ground.

Kali Ka Tibba

One out of the religious places, Kali Ka Tibba is a temple of goddess Kali. It is located at the top of a hill. Just a few trees surround the temple, but it is one of the beautiful places in the town. One the one hand you can see the exquisite beauty of nature all around, on the other hand, you can enjoy horse-riding and angling here.

Siddh Baba Ka Mandir

Another famous religion spot is Siddh Baba ka Mandir. This temple is dedicated to Saint Siddh Baba. According to a legend, Siddh Bana appeared in Maharaja Bhupendra’s dream and informed him that he meditated here on this spot.

Because of this dream, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh decided to get this temple constructed and ordered for the construction of the temple. I would make a humble request that you ought to respect the customs and traditions of Chail, and please don’t forget to follow the instructions mentioned outside the temple.

Gurudwara Sahib

Though it looks like a church it is not a church indeed, it is a Gurudwara. Chail Gurudwara was built in 1907. Thereafter an NGO called Chail Heritage Foundation took the initiative to restore it.

Chail Gurudwara is very attractive when Sikh festivals like Gurupurab and Baisakhi comes. Over and above being a religious place, it offers free accommodation to visitors in its bed chambers.

Trails of Gaura And Jhajja

If you love trekking, you would love to trek through the rocky trails of Gaura and Jhajja. During this trekking, you would go through the tall pine trees and you would love the cool and calm mountain air and atmosphere.

Certainly, you would the beautiful viewpoints, sit and rest here and enjoy the real beauty of nature. In fact, this trek starts from Chail and go through Gaura and Jhajja.

When To Visit Chail

For your convenience, I have divided this section into four parts.

Summer- This season starts in March and remains till June. If you want to get relief from the scorching sun of the summer season, this is the best time to visit Chail. This weather would allow you to experience beautiful nature views and relaxation.

Monsoon- Monsoon appears in June and ends in August. Chail gets good rainfall in monsoon. As Chail is a hill station so there are risks of landslide during the rainy season. Thus it is not a good time to visit there.

Autumn- Autumn comes in September and ends in November. It is a good time to visit the town. Though you would found fewer tourists during autumn, you would experience pleasant weather here. Thus you may get good deals on hotels and your trip during autumn may be in the budget.

Winter- The best time to visit Chail is the winter season. Winter starts in December and remains till mid-March. Those who want to see the white beauty of Chail must-visit during winter. Please don’t forget to take woolen clothes with you.

How To Reach Chail

There are three ways to reach Chail. You can take a train, bus or plane.

By Train- Kalka is the nearest railway station to Chail. It is 81 kilometers far from Chail. You can reach Chail by bus or you can hire a taxi as well.

By Road- Frequent private and roadways buses run Chail and other neighboring towns like Delhi, Shimla, Chandigarh, and Kalka, etc.

By Flight- Chandigarh is the nearest airport to Chail. It is around 117 kilometers from Chail. Either you can hire a taxi or choose to ride a bus.
